PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT...

The BEST way to become a EXPERT FLXI DRIVER is lots of driving. If you have driven solo motorcycle exclusively before, it will be easy for you, as you will drive the FLXI in the same way that you had been to driving the motorcycle.

For driving turns on a half mile race track at FULL SPEED, adjust the amount of tilt by means of the clevis and the set screw in the rocker support at each end of the rear chassis tube so that when the motorcycle is leaned all the way to the left against the set screws, it is just right for traveling around this curve with THROTTLE WIDE OPEN. Ride the turns by placing the right foot against the sidecar body and using the right leg as a brace to hold the motorcycle over to the FULL TILT against the set screws against the pressure of centrifugal force that will tend to thrust out. The amount of tilt to the left will allow the BEST SPEED around the turn of any particular track can be determined by practice on that track before the race.

For very best speed, the motorcycle should be adjusted to lean only as far as is really necessary for making the curve, as more tilt than this will increase the tendency to slide, thus losing a small amount of traction because of the motorcycle car wheel slipping. Find the "HAPPY MEDIUM"at which you can drive wide open all the way around the turn by holding the motorcycle over solidly against the set screw, with minimum of wheel slip or skid. With this adjustment, if a still sharper turn to the left is to be made, such as for steering in close to the pole from the outeredge of the track when half way around the bend, it can be done by keeping the motorcycle over to full tilt with the right leg braced against the car and in addition turning the handlebars farther toward the left. In doing this, be sure to hold the motorcycle firmly with the right leg so as not to allow centrifugal force to straighten it up.

This high speed corner work should not be attemped until you have had considerable practice at FLXI driving as there is great outward pressure in riding the turns swiftly and its important that the driver should develop sufficient skill to handle its capably in order to avoid risk.It should be understood that the FLXI SPEEDSTER is the safest type sidecar that can be used for racing purposes.

The preceding paragraph is simply meant to emphasize the importance of gaining ability before attempting speed with any kind of machine. The rider should not try to race with any kind of vehicle until he has become thoroughly accustomed to it, and expert in its operation. The big advantage of the FLXI combination is that it is capable of higher development of speed than any other sidecar outfit. The proper system of FLXI driving can be learned in a short time by any normally skillful rider who applies himself to it. Any one into ROOSTER TAILS of dust...
